Bangor's community is coming together this winter to address critical needs through various giving initiatives.
Blood Donation Drive
The BNI Maine is leading a significant effort to combat the seasonal blood donor shortage.
The drive is scheduled for Friday, February 6, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Bangor Red Cross Blood Donation Center, located at 900B Hammond Street.
Donors are encouraged to utilize the Red Cross RapidPass on the day of their appointment to streamline the donation process.
Winter Clothing and Essentials Collection
Local shelters and thrift shops are actively seeking cold-weather gear and adult essentials during these peak winter weeks.
Bangor Area Homeless Shelter
Urgent Needs: Winter boots (all sizes), sneakers (men’s 10–13), and jeans (waist sizes 30–36).
Note: As an adult-only facility, they cannot accept children’s clothing.
Drop-off Location: 263 Main Street, Bangor.
Holy Family Thrift Store (Old Town)
Accepting clean, lightly-used clothing and shoes.
Hours: Donation bin available outside for after-hours drop-offs (must be in bags).
The Attic Thrift Store (Bangor)
Proceeds support All Saints Catholic School.
Donation Times: Wednesdays and Saturdays only, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Orono Thrift Shop
Seeking gently-used clothing and home goods.
Location: 10 Birch Street, Orono.
Win-Win Thrift Store (Dover-Foxcroft)
Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for community donations.
Food Bank Resources and Needs
Regional pantries are experiencing high demand and are calling for shelf-stable non-perishables.
Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Center
Top Needs: Hearty soups, peanut butter, and shelf-stable milk.
Drop-off: Look for the blue and white donation box at the entrance (Mon–Fri, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM).
Crossroads Food Pantry (Old Town)
Open Monday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and Tuesday–Saturday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
Brewer Christian Food Cupboard
Accepts donations and serves the Brewer, Holden, and Eddington areas.
Hours: Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Hampden Neighborhood Food Cupboard
Accepts donations every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Lincoln Regional Food Cupboard
Located at 32 Park Avenue; serves as the primary hub for the Lincoln area.
