The community resource fair in Bangor, Maine, offers a practical starting point for neighbors juggling grocery costs, job searches and overdue bills.

Set for Wednesday, October 14, from 9 AM to noon, the free gathering takes place at Bangor Public Library, 145 Harlow Street.

Visitors can connect with Food AND Medicine and other community resources about food, employment, bills and available benefits.

As household pressures stack up, having several conversations in one stop can make asking for help feel less daunting.

The fair is not the only local opportunity to give or receive support this month.

For residents ready to help someone build reading skills, Literacy Volunteers of Bangor begins literacy tutor training Monday, October 19.

The session runs from 6 to 8 PM at Maine Hall on the Eastern Maine Community College campus.

A $35 training fee is listed, and the room assignment has not yet been announced.

Another way to pitch in is through the American Red Cross blood donation center at 900B Hammond Street.

Appointments are offered Tuesday through Thursday, 11 AM to 7 PM, and Saturday, 7 AM to 3 PM.

For immediate food needs, the Salvation Army at 65 South Park Street lists pantry hours Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 1 PM.

Its soup kitchen lists meals from 11:30 AM to 1 PM on those weekdays.

Residents can call 207-941-2990 to ask about assistance before making the trip.

The Salvation Army Family Store at 585 Broadway accepts clothing and household goods Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 2 PM.

Call 207-941-2993 first if you have questions about what the store can accept.

Whether someone needs groceries or wants to volunteer, these Bangor options turn community concern into something practical.
