Penobscot Pioneers Hockey Opens 4th Season With a Win Under New Coach |
Behind a hat trick from Ella Davis and a stellar goaltending performance, the Pioneers gave new Head Coach Meghan MacDonald her first career victory on opening night. |
A new era for Penobscot Pioneers Hockey began with a hard-fought victory Saturday night.
The team officially opened its fourth season with a convincing 4-2 win against the visiting Lewiston Blue Devils at the Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer.
The win marked the first career victory for new Head Coach Meghan MacDonald.
It was a statement game from the very beginning, signaling that the Pioneers are a team to watch in the Maine girls' high school hockey scene.
The offensive star of the night was undeniably Ella Davis.
The Brewer junior was unstoppable, netting an incredible three goals for a season-opening hat trick.
Her first goal was a team effort, assisted by Charlotte Horton and Izzy Brideau, showcasing the Pioneers' early-season chemistry.
Davis proved her dominance by scoring her next two goals completely unassisted.
The Lewiston Blue Devils, a tough cooperative team with players from Lewiston, Oak Hill, Mt. Ararat, Lisbon, and Monmouth Academy, couldn't find an answer for her.
Late in the game, Izzy Brideau sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, pushing the final score to 4-2.
Goaltender Abbie Derosier was a wall in the net for the Pioneers.
She was a crucial part of the win, turning away 25 shots in a fantastic performance.
For Coach MacDonald, a former standout player herself, starting the season 1-0 is the perfect way to begin her tenure leading the co-op program, which draws talent from Bangor, Brewer, Hampden Academy, and other local schools.
The energy in the Brewer arena was palpable, with local fans excited for the season ahead.
This opening night win sets a powerful tone for the Pioneers' 2025-2026 campaign. |
