Old Town Animal Shelter Offers Second Chances to Pets in Need

The Animal Orphanage in Old Town is working to connect rescue animals with loving forever homes, highlighting the journey of one special dog still waiting for her family.

Finding a pet for adoption in Old Town is about more than just getting a new dog or cat; it’s about giving an animal a second chance at life.

The Animal Orphanage, a local no-kill shelter, has become a cornerstone of the community for its work with stray and abandoned animals.

Their mission is simple but profound: to find forever homes for every animal that comes through their doors.

Since 2019, the organization has successfully rescued over 1,800 animals and facilitated nearly 1,500 adoptions.

One resident, a dog named Grace, is a powerful example of the shelter’s dedication.

After spending more than 470 days in their care, her story is one of incredible transformation.

She arrived misunderstood and fearful, but with patient training from Christine McAvoy, she has learned to trust people again.

Grace is now looking for a calm, patient home without children or other pets where she can continue to blossom.

Her journey shows that no animal is broken, some just need a little more understanding.

She loves walks, playing with enrichment toys, and forms deep bonds once she feels secure.

To help more animals like Grace find families, the shelter has partnered with local media.

You can see a featured adoptable pet every other Tuesday morning on WABI TV Channel 5, a segment that brings adoption stories directly into local living rooms.

It’s a powerful way to connect the community with pets who desperately need a home.

For residents who want to help but cannot adopt, the shelter offers other vital opportunities.

Fostering a pet temporarily, sponsoring a kennel, or making a donation are all ways to support their life-saving work.

Every act of support helps the Animal Orphanage continue its mission in Old Town, Maine, ensuring that every animal gets the chance to experience unconditional love.
