It's Election Day, Penobscot Valley: Your Voice, Your Vote Today |
Voters across the region are deciding on major statewide laws for voting and firearms, plus critical local races in Bangor, Brewer, and beyond that will shape our communities. |
Today is the day to make your voice heard across the Penobscot Valley.
Polls are officially open for you to vote today on two deeply consequential statewide questions and a host of local elections that will directly impact our daily lives.
From Bangor & Brewer, Dover-Foxcroft to Newport and Bucksport, and everone in between, the power is in the hands of residents.
The decisions made at the ballot box will steer the future of our towns for years to come.
At the state level, two major questions demand voter attention.
Question 1 proposes significant changes to Maine's election laws, including a return to photo ID requirements and changes to rules for absentee voting.
Supporters argue it's a necessary move for election security, while opponents fear it could create barriers for seniors and rural voters.
Question 2 introduces a "red flag" law, allowing family members or law enforcement to petition courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed a danger to themselves or others.
This controversial measure aims to expand on the state's current "yellow flag" law, sparking intense debate on all sides.
But the local races are where your vote today has an immediate impact.
In Bangor, a crowded field of nine candidates are vying for three open city council seats, with issues like homelessness, housing, and public safety at the forefront of the conversation.
In surrounding towns like Hermon and Old Town, school board and municipal officer elections will determine everything from school budgets to road repairs.
These are the leaders who make the decisions that shape the very fabric of our communities.
Don't miss your chance to participate.
Most polls across the Penobscot Valley are open until 8 p.m. tonight, November 4, 2025.
