Sandra Harvey, a 1975 graduate, was officially recognized as the country's first-ever female JROTC Battalion Commander.
Her landmark achievement was brought to light during a chance conversation with current program leadership.
During the school's fourth annual Distinguished Veteran’s Honor Roll ceremony, Harvey was formally inducted.
The year she began high school was the first year women were permitted to join JROTC, a pivotal moment for the school and the nation.
Harvey, who went on to a career in education, said the leadership skills she learned were foundational to her success in life.
