Hundreds of Bangor residents gathered at Broadway Park for the 7th annual Commit to Community 5K and 10K event.

This race is the single most important fundraiser for the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program at St. Joseph Hospital, which provides critical care for survivors across Eastern Maine.

The need for this service has never been more urgent.

Hospital officials confirmed a startling 30 percent increase in patients needing SAFE services, with nurses having cared for more than 850 survivors last year alone.

With nearly 1,000 people registered to run and walk, the event aimed to raise an ambitious $250,000 to maintain staffing and expand the program’s reach.

The overwhelming turnout was a powerful statement of how much the community believes in supporting this vital local cause and helping survivors during their most vulnerable moments.

New Penobscot Pioneers Girls Hockey Head Coach

In April Meghan Smith MacDonald was named as the Head Coach for the Penobscot Pioneers Girls Ice Hockey team.  Meghan has been coaching in our area for many years, played as a goaltender for Providence College and played on Travel and High School teams. She started skating at age 5 just to learn to skate but, she fell in love with the sport and played on boys teams at all levels until college where she played in 5 overtime periods against UNH to set a College Hockey OT record. Good Luck to Meghan and the Pioneers in the upcoming season!

Searching For His Forever Family

Meet Midas

  1. Age: 4 years, 4 months

  2. BreedAlaskan Husky

  3. Weight: 69 lbs

  4. Sex: Male

Midas is a bright, energetic pup with a fun personality and a sharp mind. He’s not your typical snuggle-bug, but he shows his love in his own special ways—lighting up when he sees his people, playing endless games of fetch, and always being ready for an outdoor adventure.

Highly food-motivated and eager to learn, Midas shines with training and enrichment. He already knows how to sit and shake on command and would be thrilled to keep learning new tricks. If you enjoy working with a dog who’s as brainy as he is active, Midas will keep you smiling and engaged.

Midas is looking for a home where he can be the only pet for now. He’ll thrive with teens and adults who understand the importance of structure and boundaries. With patience and consistency, he forms deep connections and will reward you with a truly special bond.

If you’re ready to start a great new adventure with a loyal, smart companion, Midas may be the perfect match for you!
