Solstice Garden Party + Bass Park After Dark this weekend plus Farmer's Markets

Solstice Garden Party + Bass Park After Dark this weekend plus Farmer's Markets
Jelly Roll live, free night markets, and the longest day of the year

Jun 19, 2026

Summer hit the valley this week and it didn't ease in slowly. Between Jelly Roll at Maine Savings, Bass Park After Dark, and the Summer Solstice Garden Party at Norumbega, the region has more going on Saturday than most weekends all year. Pick your lane — big concert energy or a quiet garden on the longest day of the year. Either way, get out. Maine evenings in June don't get better than this. Thanks to 207 Wellness and Woof LLC for making this edition possible.

Saturday, June 20 is a mix of sun and clouds with a high near 72 and a low around 54. Winds out of the west at 14-16 mph. A solid day to be outside.

Sunday, June 21 — the solstice — brings a slight chance of afternoon showers and a possible thunderstorm. High near 70-73, low around 52. If you're planning to be out for the evening, watch the sky but don't cancel on it yet.

Monday, June 22 has showers likely through the day. High near 68, low around 54. Good day to ease into the week from inside.

As always with Maine in June — look out the window. If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes.

Summer Solstice Garden Party
Norumbega Parkway, Downtown Bangor | Saturday, June 20, 5:00–7:00 PM | Free, all ages

The Downtown Bangor Partnership hosts its annual celebration in the gardens at Norumbega Parkway, right in the heart of downtown. The flowers are in full bloom, violinist Thomas Bailey provides the music, and there are lawn games, cookies, and lemonade. It runs five to seven, it's free, and it's one of the nicest things Bangor does all summer. Moves indoors if needed — either way it happens.

Bass Park After Dark
Cross Insurance Center, Lot A, 515 Main St, Bangor | Saturday, June 20, 4:00–9:00 PM | Free, free parking

More than 100 artisan vendors, food trucks, beer garden, and live music at the Cross Insurance Center's outdoor night market. Free to get in, free to park. If the weather holds it's one of the better ways to spend a Saturday evening in Bangor. Moves indoors in poor weather.

Jelly Roll — Little ASS Shed Tour
Maine Savings Amphitheater, Bangor | Saturday, June 20, 7:00 PM | Tickets required

Jelly Roll brings his Little ASS Shed Tour to Bangor with special guest Kashus Culpepper. Tickets at mainesavingsamphitheater.com.

Harness Racing returns to Hollywood Casino Raceway at Bass Park on Friday, June 19, with post time at 12:10 PM. Free to watch, free parking. Wagers on races 3-10 count toward the Crown of the Queen City promotion.

Elvis tribute artist Jessi Mallory brings an evening of nostalgia, rhythm, and soul to Hammond Street Congregational Church, 146 Hammond St, Bangor, on Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 PM. Mallory is a multi-award-winning performer and a Bangor-area favorite.

Sunday is the summer solstice — the longest day of 2026, with sunset in Bangor at 8:24 PM. If you've got a favorite spot on the Penobscot, Sunday evening is the one to be there.

The solstice sunrise is at 4:49 AM Sunday for anyone who keeps those kinds of hours

Summer is peak season for ticks in Maine, and dogs that spend time outside — even in a backyard — need a daily check. Run your fingers along the ears, around the collar, between the toes, and under the legs where ticks like to hide. Find one? Use fine-tipped tweezers, pull straight out without twisting, and don't crush it. Your vet can recommend the right preventative if your dog isn't already on one. A minute at the door after every outing goes a long way.

The solstice weekend is a good reminder that movement doesn't have to mean a workout. A walk through Norumbega Parkway Saturday evening, a bike ride Sunday morning before the clouds roll in, a paddle on the river — all of it counts. The longest day of the year is a good day to use the daylight.

FARMERS MARKET SEASON — WHAT'S FRESH RIGHT NOW

Strawberries are at peak right now in the Penobscot Valley. If you have not made it to a market yet this year, this is the week — the tables are full and the season won't wait. Local meat, eggs, baked goods, greens, herbs, and early summer produce are all running strong. Here is where to find them.

Bangor Farmers Market
Sunday, 11:00 AM–1:30 PM | 140 Harlow St, across from the Bangor Public Library
Running May through Thanksgiving. This market has been meeting on that corner for over a century. Fresh produce, local meat, eggs, baked goods, goat cheese, and berries. If you only make it to one market this week, make it this one.

Brewer Farmers Market
Saturday, 8:30 AM–1:00 PM
318 Wilson St, Brewer Auditorium | Running May through October
Three days a week — the most accessible market in the valley by schedule. Full line of fresh fruits, berries, herbs, and vegetables in season.

Orono Farmers Market
Saturday, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM | Steam Plant parking lot, College Ave, Orono
Running May through November. One of the best small markets in the region — worth the drive up Route 2 on a Saturday morning.

Hampden Farmers Market
Friday, 2:00–5:30 PM | 70 Western Ave, St. Matthew's Church, Hampden
Running May through October. Fresh meats, cheeses, baked goods, produce, and flowers. A good Friday afternoon stop on the way home.

This Weekend in the Penobscot Valley is brought to you by 207 Wellness and Woof LLC. We're grateful for their support of this community.

Maine is a state that gives you permission to complain all winter about the cold and then go slightly overboard the moment summer arrives. I mean I noticed three sets of lawn chairs out on porches this week that definitely weren't there last month. Nobody eases into June up here. You either missed winter so much you burst into it sideways or you've been pacing yourself since mud season waiting for this exact moment. Either way works. The valley is showing off right now. The drives are greener than they've been all year, the river is doing its thing, and there are enough events happening this Saturday that you could reasonably argue you need to be in two places at once. I'll take that problem over the alternative any week of the year. Enjoy the weekend I will see you next Tuesday...same Bat Channel, same Bat time — look for the Bat signal.
