D) 1910

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Good morning,

As we close out April and head into May, you can feel things starting to shift across the Penobscot Valley. The weather may not be perfect yet, but the signs of spring are everywhere — more people out and about, more events on the calendar, and more opportunities to reconnect with the community.

What stands out to me this week is how much of what’s happening is driven by local involvement. From downtown beautification efforts to volunteer opportunities and community programs, this is the time of year when people step forward and help shape what the season becomes.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get involved, this is it.

Let’s get into what’s happening this week.

— Sandy

Rex is a lively, affectionate 4-year-old dog who has called the Animal Orphanage in Old Town, Maine home for almost a year.

With his love for walks, playtime, and even a dip in the water, Rex brings energy and joy wherever he goes.

He’s best suited as the only pet in a household without young children or other animals, and thrives with a patient owner giving him stability and care.

Rex has a manageable thyroid condition and should be fed separately due to resource guarding, but his loyal heart is worth it.

Featured in a magazine last December, Rex’s story highlights the incredible efforts of the Animal Orphanage team, who’ve been caring for animals since 1990.

The no-kill shelter, located at 71 Airport Road, relies on staff, volunteers, and the community to provide safe haven for pets seeking their forever families.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:

B) 1893

The Bangor Opera House first opened its doors in 1893 and quickly became a cultural centerpiece for the region, hosting theater productions, music performances, and community events. After being lost in the Great Fire of 1911, the venue was later rebuilt and continues today as the home of Penobscot Theatre Company.
