FROM MAKERS TO THE MOON Saturday stretches from Maine-made work to a shared look at the night sky.
The Bangor Waterfront Craft Fair runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, bringing together more than 60 vendors and crafters, along with food and drink trucks. Later, Waterfront Park hosts NASA’s International Observe the Moon Night with Maine Discovery Museum from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Spend the morning meeting Maine makers, then return to the waterfront for an evening of telescopes, family activities, and a closer look at the Moon.

LINCOLN MARATHON RUNNING FESTIVAL & RIVER DRIVER 50 MILER
Sunday, September 20 The River Driver 50 Miler starts at 4:30 AM. The marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K begin together at 7:30 AM. All races start near the Lincoln Loon at West Broadway and Main Street and finish at Prince Thomas Park. Every finisher receives a medal, and spectators are welcome to join the celebration at the park.
THIRD ANNUAL WALK FOR HOPE
Saturday, September 19 at 9:00 AM This noncompetitive 5K walk and run brings families, cancer survivors and caregivers together to support cancer care in Piscataquis County. Proceeds benefit the Tracy Hibbard Kasprzak Cancer Treatment Center and its Patient Assistance Fund. Food, music and family activities are planned before and after the walk.
FORT KNOX GHOST TOUR
Saturday, September 19 Join paranormal investigators for an after-hours tour through the dark passages of Fort Knox. Participants will use night-vision and sensor equipment while exploring reports of unexplained activity inside the historic fort. Space is limited. Participants must be at least 18, or 12 when accompanied by an adult. Bring a flashlight. |

FROM WHAT WE MAKE TO WHAT WE WONDER
Saturday offers one of those schedules that captures what I enjoy about living in the Penobscot Valley.
You can begin the day at the Bangor Waterfront Craft Fair, meeting Maine makers who turn their ideas and skills into something you can hold. A few hours later, you can return to the waterfront and look through a telescope at the Moon.
The distance between a handmade item and the Moon may seem enormous, but both begin with curiosity. One asks, “What can I make?” The other asks, “What is waiting out there?”
We spend plenty of time rushing from one week to the next. This Saturday gives us a reason to slow down, appreciate the talent close to home and remember to look up once in a while.
