Support food cupboards and blood donations for local impact

In the heart of Bangor, Maine, community support is more crucial than ever. Local food cupboards and blood donation centers are calling on residents to lend a hand.

The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, located at 263 Main Street, operates a food pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. They are in urgent need of ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and coffee supplies. A small donation can make a significant difference.

At 65 South Park Street, the Salvation Army Food Pantry welcomes donations Monday through Friday between 9:00 and 11:00 am, and 1:00 to 3:00 pm by appointment. Non-perishable items like canned goods and boxed meals are especially appreciated.

The Ecumenical Food Cupboard, housed at 28 High Street, serves Bangor residents exclusively. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to noon, they seek donations of pasta, peanut butter, cereals, and canned fruits. Remember to check expiration dates before donating.

In response to logistical challenges, the American Red Cross has announced the discontinuation of mobile blood drives in northern Maine starting July 2026. However, blood donations remain vital. The Bangor Red Cross Blood Donation Center at 900B Hammond Street is open for donations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Donors are encouraged to schedule appointments to help maintain a stable blood supply.

Your contributions, whether through food or blood donations, have a profound impact on our community. By supporting these local organizations, you help ensure that essential services continue to reach those in need.
