What a weekend to be in the Penobscot Valley Tonight, the waterfront has a different kind of energy — Kid Cudi at Maine Savings Amphitheater, 6:30 PM. Big night on the river.
Sunday morning, over 350 runners from across Maine and well beyond are going to line up at the corner of Main and Dutton and run 26.2 miles through this city and out toward Kenduskeag. That is not a small thing. It's a Boston-certified marathon happening right here, and the waterfront finish at Bangor Waterfront Park is going to be worth showing up for even if you're just there to cheer.
Good stuff happening close to home. Get out there. — Sandy |
Here's what the National Weather Service is showing for the weekend:
Friday, June 5: High near 82°F with a 45% chance of rain. Warm day, but if you're heading to Kid Cudi tonight, toss a jacket or raincoat in the car — you'll be glad you did.
Saturday, June 6: High near 62°F, 40% chance of rain. A noticeable cooldown from Friday. Grab a jacket for packet pickup this afternoon.
Sunday, June 7 — Race Day: High near 66°F, 35% chance of rain. Cool, manageable conditions for the marathon.
You know the rule around here: if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes.

Flori Davis isn't just running the Bangor Marathon on Sunday — she owns it. Flori holds the women's course record here, which means when the horn goes off at the corner of Main and Dutton at 7:00 AM, she knows this course in a way most runners never will. She knows where it opens up and where it fights back. She knows what Valley Avenue feels like at mile eighteen and what the waterfront looks like when you're finally coming home. Ask her why she keeps coming back and you'll get an answer that has nothing to do with records. It's Bangor. It's this community showing up on the sidewalks and cheering for strangers. That's what brings her back. Sunday morning, find a spot on the course and cheer loud. You might just be cheering for the fastest woman ever to run it. |
Between the marathon, the market, the music, and a walking tour through Bangor history, this weekend has something for just about everyone. Here's the short list. |
Bangor Marathon, Half, 10k & 5k - Line the course 7 Am Sunday morning. The marathon route runs through downtown and out toward Kenduskeag. Pick a spot, bring a coffee, and cheer on a stranger. They'll remember it.
Finish line at the waterfront. Bangor Waterfront Park is where the marathon ends. Show up around 8:30 AM and you'll catch finishers coming in. Geaghan's is right there if you need to fuel up. The Vacationland Triple Crown. New in 2026 — MESA is offering a special medal for runners who complete three of their four races this year. If you've got a race habit, this is for you. Details at mesa-maine.org.
Bangor's European Market is worth an early stop Saturday morning. Ingrid's hosts it at West Market Square from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM — local meats, seafood, baked goods, and gifts. Good way to start the day before the waterfront fills up.
Florentis plays West Market Square Saturday evening, 5:00–7:00 PM, free and all ages. End of school year energy downtown before the Kid Cudi crowd arrives.
The Fire of 1911 Walking Tour goes Saturday evening at 6:00 PM from the Bangor Historical Society — follows the path of the fire that tore through downtown in April 1911. If you've ever wondered which buildings survived and why, this is the tour.
The Bangor Farmers Market runs Sunday morning 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the corner of Franklin and Harlow, across from the library. Marathon finishers, this one's timed perfectly.
Sunday Community Jam at 2 Feet Brewing — 2:00 to 5:00 PM. People show up with instruments and play. No cover, no agenda, just music. Good way to close out a big weekend.

The latest episode of Maine Thrive Voices is live — and this one is worth your time.
Anik Derphilibossian built Dreamer Food from a genuine love of Lebanese cooking and a belief that Bangor was ready for something bold and different. Her restaurant and food truck have become exactly that. In this conversation, she talks about where the business came from, what it took to build it, and why the food she serves is personal in a way that goes well beyond the menu.
It's the kind of story that reminds you why local businesses matter — and why the people behind them are worth knowing.

With runners, spectators, and concert crowds all heading to the Bangor Waterfront this weekend, downtown parking fills up fast. Give yourself an extra 20 minutes Sunday morning. Walking a few blocks from a side street beats circling for 30. |
If you're running Sunday, you already know this one — but it's worth saying anyway: sleep matters more tonight than almost anything else you can do. The race is won in the 48 hours before the start line.
